Calling ALL ALCA Members:
Each year our members and their families on our lake, and guests look forward to the Annual Anstruther Lake Regatta. 2020 has proven to be a year of firsts and, regrettably, we are cancelling Regatta 2020 for the first time in 58 years. We do not make this announcement lightly. Our Executive met on Wednesday, June 24 to formalize this decision as we recognize that our ability to host this event is limited by current provincial legislation and guidance around best practices by both provincial health and local public health officials.
We are, however, pleased to invite ALCA members and guests to join us in participating in our ‘Anstruther Lake Distance Regatta 2020’ which we are organizing as a way for adults and children of all ages to participate to celebrate the wonders that our beautiful lake has to offer. We are offering three ways to become involved in ALDR2020:
1. Family Photo: Capture this moment in time, when families joined together in 2020 to enjoy our lake and community from social distance. Take a picture of you and your CREW at your favourite place on our lake and send the photo to ALCA Executive who will arrange a composite that will be available to download and print as well as appear on the ALCA website. Please include the statement below in your email to confirm your participation:
“By emailing this photo I hereby grant ALCA executive members permission to include this photograph in a photo composite celebrating Anstruther Lake Distance Regatta 2020 which will be made available to all participating families.”
Kindly email submissions to Chris Johnstone at firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday, August 3rd if you are interested in being included in our regatta composite using the subject line “Regatta 2020: Family Photo”. Please remember to include your family members’ names in your email.
2. Stone Skipping: Test your skill at skipping stones by submitting a video of yourself engaging in a cottage favourite pass-time. We will recognize all contributors by creating a video of our participants demonstrating stone skipping skills! The video will be made available for download to all participants. Kindly email videos to Chris Johnstone at email@example.com by Monday, August 3rd if you are interested in being included in our regatta video using the subject line “Regatta 2020: Stone Skipping”. Please remember to include the stone skipper’s name in your email.
3. Fishing: Are you ready to put your fishing stories to the test? We welcome all anglers young and not so young to capture a photo of your prize fish and submit it in competition for the ‘longest fish’. We have three categories of fish in two age groups. Our 15 and under category winners will be awarded prizes for first, second, third and our over 15 age group will win bragging rights. Please take a photo of the participating angler with his or her fish and include details about the catch in your email including the species type and the length or weight of the fish caught.

While Regatta 2020 will look unlike any regatta in the past, it might fit in perfectly with these unprecedented times in which we find ourselves. Thank you to each of you who intend to participate, we look forward to celebrating our wonderful cottage community and cottage pastimes alongside you while maintaining physical distance. We hope that you, your families, those you care about and those you care for remain well as we continue to respect physical distancing in an attempt to flatten the COVID curve while still enjoying the wonders of our lake and community.
